BHP Senior Erica Brody Selected as Member of The Friar Society

Congratulations to BHP Senior Erica Brody, who was selected to be one of five new members of The Friar Society at the University of Texas at Austin. Erica was also recently selected as one of two recipients of the Texas Parents’ Outstanding Students Award.

The Friar Society was founded in 1911 and it serves to recognize students who have made significant contributions to the university. The “creed” of Friar Society is “recognizing history, serving the community, and bringing honor to The University of Texas”. New members are selected each semester based academic excellence, service to the community, and contribution to the university. To learn more about The Friar Society, visit their website here.

BHP Students Win Top 3 Places in Deloitte Consulting’s 22nd Annual McCombs Case Competition

BHP students were the frontrunners in yet another case competition this past month. Deloitte Consulting’s 22nd Annual McCombs Case Competition, which took place on October 20th & 21st,  paired one undergraduate student with a team of four MBA students to analyze a case.

BHP students Alex Hodges, Justin Peden, and Luyao Chen were members of the first, second, and third place teams, respectively. They were awarded cash prizes for their success as well as a wonderful accomplishment to add to their resume.

Additionally, BHP student Doug Daniel won one of four of the Best Presenter awards.

BHP Students Win UT PwC xACT Competition

Four BHP students were part of the winning team in the university-wide PwC xACT Competition. Satvika Ananthanarayan (BHP ‘14), Kevin Chiu (BHP/MPA ‘12), Kyle Haramliysky (BHP/MPA ‘12), Vishal Jain (BHP ‘14), and Rahul Sangal (BBA ’13) tackled an extreme accounting challenge and were awarded first place for their winning proposal. Congratulations!

The National Committee will soon review proposals from all participating nationwide campuses. If chosen as one of the Top 5, the team will be flown out to New York City to participate in the National Finals.

BHP students win first place at Ethics Case Competition

BHP seniors Kelley Rytlewski and Bhargav Srinivasan were the first place winners of University of Arizona’s Collegiate Ethics Case Competition in Tucson, Arizona. This dynamic duo beat out teams from twenty eight other schools to claim the top prize.

Teams were asked to analyze an ethical case with real-world business application and present their proposal to a panel of judges. This year, participants were asked to assume the identity of a risk mitigation team of a local bank and respond to a family considering a strategic default on their mortgage.

BHP Seniors Awarded Both Prestigious Texas Parents’ Outstanding Student Awards

BHP seniors Erica Brody and Michael Daehne were awarded the Texas Parents’ Outstanding Students Awards, an honor given to only one male and one female each year at The University of Texas. Not since 2005 have both awards been given to BHP students.

Since 1951, this award has been given to students who demonstrate exceptional leadership, scholarship, character, and service. According to the Texas Parents website, the honorees will be given a special plaque, lifetime membership in Texas Exes, and have a brick paver laid at the Student Services Building in their honor. The awards will be presented at the Celebration of Leadership Dinner on November 4th as well as during a field presentation during the November 5th home football game.
