Canfield BHP in Copenhagen Comes to a Close

After five weeks of schoolwork, cultural excursions, and weekend trips, Canfield BHP’s study abroad program in Copenhagen has come to an end. The time went quickly, but the group of 31 students packed a lot into their time abroad.

While in Denmark, the students took two business courses: Doing Business the Scandinavian Way and Organizational Behavior. In the Scandinavian-focused class, the group analyzed the impact of culture on advertising and discussed how companies can effectively market their products to different audiences. The students also made a company visit to the Carlsberg Group to learn about its strategy. Then, the students were placed into teams and tasked with formulating a unique strategy for Carlsberg. For the final assignment, they prepared a business report and presented their plan and analysis.

Meanwhile, in the Organizational Behavior course, the group learned more about effective teamwork by completing a Mt. Everest simulation. The students worked in small teams to overcome challenges as they made their way to the virtual summit. At the end of the simulation, the teams were asked to analyze their performance in a report and make connections to class concepts.

Outside of class, the students familiarized themselves with Denmark by biking around Copenhagen, exploring the historic architecture, and kayaking with friends. Students also enjoyed trying out tasty street food at Reffen, a local dining attraction. When the weekend arrived, some students took trips to Italy, the Netherlands, England, Ireland, and Iceland, among other countries.

On Saturday, July 8, the students checked out of their apartments; some flew back to the U.S. while others continued exploring Europe. And although the study abroad program has ended, the students have made many memories that will last a lifetime!
