HBA Company Field Trip Takes Students to Boston

Boston Group

This weekend, 24 BHP students braved the wrath of Winter Storm Jonas and traveled to Boston for the Honors Business Association’s annual company field trip. Over the course of three days, the students visited four companies, dined with local BHP alumni, and learned about postgraduate opportunities at Harvard.

Companies visited spanned several different industries, allowing students to explore a variety of career options. The group started at Liberty Mutual, where they participated in “speed networking” with some recruiters. They then toured the office and learned more about opportunities at this insurance giant.

On Friday morning, the group visited with associates at Boston Consulting Group. They enjoyed learning about work-life balance, the staffing process, and what it means to be a consultant. Next, they traveled to THL Partners, a Boston-based private equity firm. Over a delicious lunch, several associates debunked myths about the PE industry and talked about their daily responsibilities. The last company visit was to P&G Gillette Headquarters. Unfortunately they didn’t get any insight about the next big razor release, but they did learn a great deal about the history of Gillette and the employment opportunities there.

After all the company visits, it was nice for the group to relax with some BHP alumni at La Famiglia Giorgio’s in Boston’s North End. A diverse mix of careers were represented by the alumni: several consultants and law students were present, as were a doctor and an artist.

On the last full day in Boston, they visited the Harvard campus. BHP alumnus Bhargav Srinivasan led a tour of Harvard Law School, and the group also toured Harvard Business School. The group really enjoyed their time in the city.
