Niandong Wang, a senior business executive and a long time career coach, would like to share with UT Austin Chinese international graduate students his experience from being an international Chinese graduate student to a senior business leader in the silicon valley. Niandong will share his job searching and career development tips and strategies. This Q&A will be conducted in English and Chinese for international graduate students looking for internships or a full-time job in the US.

BIPOC Graduate Students and the Publishing Process

Friday, March 26, 1-2PM

The series is designed to address the unique hurdles facing BIPOC scholars in the academy and helps to “demystify” the publication process for peer-reviewed journal articles and public-facing projects. The first workshop, part one, will focus on BIPOC graduate students publishing a peer-reviewed journal article. We will provide specific strategies for prepping submissions. The structure of this workshop includes a panel, which consists of two graduate students who are experienced in publishing a journal and two editors from different interdisciplinary journals. Featured guests include: Nakia Parker, Michigan State University; Kevin Quin, Cornell University, and Michael Ezra, Sonoma State University.

Navigating and Succeeding in a Job Search as an LGBTQ+ Person

A person’s sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression impacts our lives in many ways, including our careers. During a job search or the career exploration process, LGBTQ+ individuals can have many different questions about how our life experiences can impact or be impacted by a job search. During this interactive workshop we will discuss self-care during a job search, managing one’s job search documents, navigating potential job search pitfalls, and how to interact well with prospective employers.

Sustainability on Tap (Careers Edition!)

We’re looking for grad student presenters! Showcase your sustainability or environmental research, project, or passion to your peers in 3 easy minutes. All you need is 5 PowerPoint slides, an environmental/social sustainability angle, and a sense of fun. Any and all presentation ideas are welcome! Priority given to submissions received by April 4. Submit your idea to https://bit.ly/SoT_Present_Sp21 .  This Spring’s Sustainability on Tap will be limited to approximately 8 presenters who will be selected to best showcase the diversity of sustainability and environmental fields.

 

In this special Careers Edition of Sustainability on Tap, UT advanced-degree alumni will also be sharing their career journeys. There will be a short networking session with the alumni after the presentations. Get a head start and RSVP now. Part of Earth Month, this event is co-hosted by the Office of Sustainability and Texas Career Engagement.

 

The CONNECT Program 

Looking for a part-time and flexible fellowship opportunity this Summer? The CONNECT program aims to increase data, measurement and evaluation capacity within community organizations through the use of an online platform to match organizations’ projects with graduate students at UT looking for applied and practical experience in the social sector.
