Introduction to Consulting Careers for Advanced Degrees

Hear from consultants who work in management consulting, public sector consulting, educational consulting, and individual coaching what their work entails, how they discovered this career path, their transition from graduate school, and their recommendations for graduate students getting started in this career. This event consists of a 60-minute panel discussion followed by 30 minutes of small breakout rooms where attendees can meet with individual panelists. The panel will be moderated by the Co-Presidents of Texas Advanced Degrees 2 Consulting, an organization for graduate students transitioning from academia to consulting.

 

Networking: How to Formulate Effective Informational Interview Questions

During this interactive online session, participants will learn how to formulate effective informational interview questions. Prior to the live session, participants will be provided with a slide deck and videos to learn networking fundamentals, what are informational interviews and why they are effective, and review networking tools that can help identify individuals for informational interviews. This session will provide a casual, low stakes environment, with fellow graduate students, to ask more specific questions about networking and informational interviews, while practicing effective informational interview questions.

Networking in the US for International Graduate Students

During the workshop participants will learn the culture and expectations of networking in the US. Participants will learn how to grow their network in the US and establish authentic professional relationships using a range of tools and techniques. This session will provide a casual, low stakes environment, with fellow graduate students, to ask more specific questions about networking in the U.S. while practicing effective communication.
Writing a Compelling Resume

During this interactive session, participants will practice using an accomplishment statement framework to write experience section bullet points for their resume. Prior to the session, participants will be provided with a slide deck and videos to learn resume writing fundamentals, what are accomplishment statements and why they are effective, and review examples of accomplishment statements for different skills and disciplines. This session will provide a casual, low stakes environment with fellow graduate students to ask more specific questions about resume writing and practice writing bullet points in an accomplishment statement format.
