Class Note: Lisa Coreless, MBA ’14

Lisa Corless has been promoted to president and Chief Executive Officer of AF Group, a subsidiary of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

“AF Group’s continued success is a testament to Lisa’s outstanding operational expertise and visionary leadership,” said Daniel J. Loepp, president and Chief Executive Officer, BCBSM. “Her proven industry knowledge and extensive experience will help AF Group further expand its reach and create value for its customers.”

As president of AF Group since 2016, Corless assumes CEO duties from Elizabeth Haar, who is now BCBSM executive vice president and president of Emerging Markets. The promotion is an expansion of duties for Corless, who will maintain responsibility for the day-to-day operations of AF Group.

Class Note: Matthew Brogdon, BS ’99, MBA ’06

Guggenheim Securities, the investment banking and capital markets division of Guggenheim Partners, announced today that Matthew Brogdon has joined the firm as a Senior Managing Director in the firm’s Houston-based Oil and Gas investment banking group.

Mr. Brogdon brings over two decades of experience advising and managing oil and gas companies and assets. He joins Guggenheim most recently from Citigroup where he was Co-Head of the Energy Acquisitions & Divestitures (A&D) Group. Before Citigroup, Mr. Brogdon served as Chief Operating Officer of a private oil and gas company. Prior to that role, he served in the Corporate Advisory Practice at Evercore Partners, where he focused on M&A and capital raising for energy firms. He began his career in engineering roles with ExxonMobil and Netherland Sewell & Associates. Read more

Class Note: C. Kim Goodwin, MBA ’87

Equality Asset Management, a next-generation private equity firm, announced that it has formed an advisory board which will be responsible for providing Equality and its companies with strategic guidance, industry insight, and deep functional expertise. C. Kim Goodwin, MBA ’87, joins the board as an accomplished CEO, CIO, portfolio manager, and board director.

C. Kim Goodwin is an accomplished CEO, CIO, portfolio manager, and Board Director. Kim currently serves as CEO and CIO of Avanico Holdings in Puerto Rico, and is currently a Non-Executive Director of PineBridge Investments, and an independent Director of Popular Inc. (BPOP) based in Puerto Rico. Previously Kim served as the Global Head of Equities for Asset Management at Credit Suisse Group, and as CIO of Equities of State Street Research. Previously Kim served for many years on the Board of Akamai Technologies and CheckFree Corporation (acquired by FiServ in 2005), and as a Director of various equity funds within the Allianz Global Investors family of funds. Kim also serves on the Board of Trustees and on the PRINCO endowment board of Princeton University.  Kim holds two Master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, one in Public Affairs, an M.B.A. in Finance from The McCombs School of Business, and an AB cum laude in Politics from Princeton University. Class Note: Carlo Matta, MBA ’02

CA Ventures announced the hire of Carlo Matta to support the U.S. firm’s planned $500 million investment in the European housing market. Matta who will head the new London-based European division of CA Ventures, brings over 20 years of experience to the firm, most recently working as managing director at Optimum Asset Management in New York, where he oversaw the sourcing, fundraising, and development of $530 million in real estate developments.

“These strategic hires, both of whom were hand-picked given their extensive experience on the international stage, will accelerate the growth of our European division as we continue to identify development opportunities in vastly underserved markets,” said Tom Scott, CEO of CA Ventures. “With dozens of years of experience between them, Carlo and Olaf can provide us with the hyperlocal insights and relationships needed to build upon CA’s existing $4.5 billion student housing and multifamily residential portfolios across the U.S., Canada, Latin America and Europe.” Read more

Class Note: Stephen F. Morris, BBA ’77

Stephen F. Morris, BBA ’77, recently retired from the practicing law. Prior to retirement, he was an equity partner with Naman, Howell, Smith & Lee in its Austin office, specializing in administrative and public utility regulatory law, handling regulatory matters before the FCC, FERC, and various state regulatory agencies. Previously, Morris served as executive assistant to chairman Paul Meek of the Public Utility Commission of Texas, and as senior attorney for MCI (now Verizon), handling legal and regulatory matters in MCI’s five-state Southwestern region. In addition to practicing law, he is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Class Note: Kurt G. Paxson, BBA ’81

Kurt G. Paxson, BBA ’81, J.D. ’84, has been selected as Best Lawyers 2018 Lawyer of the Year for Personal Injury Litigation – Defendant in El Paso. Paxson and was also selected for the 2018 Outstanding Lawyer Award by the El Paso Bar Association, and has been named a “Top 50” Super Lawyer for Central – West Texas. Paxson is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law and Civil Trial Law. He practices in El Paso with the law firm of Mounce, Green, Myers, Safi, Paxson, & Galatzan, P.C.

Myomo, Inc., a wearable medical robotics company, announced that Micah Mitchell is joining the company as chief commercial officer, a newly created executive role. Mitchell has extensive experience growing revenues for companies in the durable medical equipment industry, including companies that provide customized wheelchair and mobility solutions to those with paralysis due to spinal cord injuries, and other neurological conditions.
