Class Note: Nicki Patel, BBA ’13

Nicki Patel oversees day-to-day operations at SMPR and has been with the company since 2009, during which time she has been honing her skills in public relations, digital marketing, influencer relations and experiential marketing. Overseeing all client work for SMPR, Nicki works with each client from concept to realization of their marketing strategy.

In recent years, she has worked on projects such as grand opening strategy and execution for NYX Professional Makeup stores across the country, event ideation and social media strategy for Mockingbird Station, public relations strategy and execution for Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, and much more. Read more

Class Note: Paul Teich, MSTC ’99

DoubleHorn, a cloud solutions provider and cloud services brokerage, is proud to announce the addition of Paul Teich for the newly formed position of Principal Analyst.

DoubleHorn has not formally launched its new cloud industry analysis program; however, it plans to roll out the new addition in the second half of 2018. The cloud industry analysis program will focus on DoubleHorn’s Liftr News data analytics and DoubleHorn’s analytical strategy for Cloud Service Brokerage. Paul will also work with product management for market strategy and Liftr News subscribers content.

Class Note: Michael Burris, BBA ’97

Michael W. Burris,, MD is focused on treating ACL tears and learning the latest techniques in ACL surgery and reconstruction to restore mobility to those with knee injuries.. At this time, he also assisted in taking care of multiple collegiate athletic programs including the University of Kentucky Wildcats.

Dr. Michael W. Burris of Capital City Orthopaedics has been reviewed and approved by TX Top Docs. Dr. Burris attended the University of Texas in Austin, graduating with honors from the McCombs School of Business while completing his premedical curriculum. This was followed by obtaining a medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston where he also completed a five year residency in orthopedic surgery, serving as chief resident in 2005-2006.

Dr. Burris gained extensive experience in orthopedic trauma and reconstructive surgery while training at a busy Level I Trauma center within the Houston Medical Center. After the trauma center, Dr. Burris continued his training by obtaining a sub-specialty fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Kentucky. This fellowship involved significant training in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee as well as complex knee ligament surgery. Read more

Class Note: Tyler Dial, BBA ’18

Tyler Dial, a lifelong country music fan born and raised in Phoenix, saw his dreams come true during Nashville’s annual CMA Fest June 7-10. Just weeks after his second EP release and graduation from The University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business, the aspiring country star signed autographs, met fans and took in the experience.

“Since I was a kid, playing this week in Nashville was one of my ‘home run’ goals,” said Dial. “The fans were amazing and I loved playing songs from our Repaint EP in the same venues as many of my music idols. Like a kid in a candy shop, it was such a blast to be a part of it all.”

Tyler released his lead single, “Truth in the Way” on his graduation day, May 18, followed by his full EP, Repaint, on May 25The five-track EP (available on iTunes and Spotify) was produced in creative partnership with Nashville’s Neon Cross Music, the publishing company helmed by the award-winning producer Jay Joyce. Class Note: Sean Foley, MBA ’08

Sports brought Sean Foley to Austin as a University of Texas swimmer. And it’s a big part of what the Wisconsin native does with Austin Sports and Entertainment, which wants to replace the Travis County Expo Center with an arena and open-air sports complex. The 37-year-old is also the CEO for Nine Banded Whiskey, which launched locally in 2016.

MBA alumni and students in the Houston area gathered for a weekend of activities in celebration of the first graduating class of 2007 from the Houston program, including 5- and 10-year reunion groups (classes of 2008 and 2012/2013). The weekend kicked off with a Friday welcome reception and continued on Saturday with a breakfast and faculty presentations by Maytal Saar-Tsechansky and Christopher Meakin who discussed business and ethical implications surrounding Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
