Armed with an MBA from Texas McCombs School of Business, Lanaya Irvin has worked for Bank of America as vice president and senior vice president in several roles. Vikram Murali, has joined Mawson as Director of Corporate Development and leads mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and corporate development activities for the Company. Mr. Murali was most recently an investment banker with Evercore, a global investment bank, with their M&A advisory practice. He is a graduate of the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin and has a Bachelor of Science from Rice University. READ MORE
The McCombs School of Business BBA Advisory Board is proud to present the Student Rising Star Award to Daniela Aizenman. This award is given to a student who has proven an established commitment to service within the McCombs School through outstanding scholarship and achievements and exemplary leadership and community involvement. Daniela graduated this spring with her BBA in Management Information Systems, and is looking forward to her future with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in New York City.
The selection committee for the Student Rising Star Award feels Daniela is a strong representation of what leadership looks like at McCombs, and they are confident she will continue to make a lasting difference in her community as she launches her career. Following graduation, Daniela will serve a one-year term on the McCombs BBA Advisory Board.
Q: Why did you choose McCombs?
I chose McCombs because I had heard of the legacy and lifelong network that comes with being a part of the McCombs community both during and after your time at UT. I was also attracted to the incredible support and endless amount of resources and opportunities McCombs alumni and professors have to offer.
The minute I arrived at UT, I was met by McCombs upperclassmen who thrived in not only their academics but also professionally through unique opportunities such as studying abroad. It was reassuring to know that I was following a similar path and going to experience all the amazing things McCombs has to offer!
Q: What is your favorite McCombs memory?
Undoubtedly, my favorite memory during my four years at McCombs was studying abroad in Barcelona Spain, during my junior spring semester. I was fortunate to travel abroad with so many of my fellow McCombs classmates, as well as having the opportunity to meet to make new friendships. I really enjoyed taking MIS classes at various world-renowned institutions in addition to traveling around Europe.
The classes I took not only taught me traditional business skills, but I gained lifelong skills such as acclimating to different cultures that I will carry forever.
Q: What do you hope to do post-graduation?
While it is a bittersweet feeling leaving UT, I am excited for the opportunity to return to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in the New York City office in the fall! I will be joining PwC labs under the Innovation Hub as a product management associate, working with innovating an emerging technologies.
I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to intern at two PwC offices, New York City and Tel Aviv, during two of my summers while at McCombs. Additionally, as a recipient of the 2024 Rising Star Award, I am excited to have the opportunity to remain involved within the McCombs community as a new member of the BBA Advisory Board.
Q: Tell us one thing about you people would be surprised to know.
I was born in Mexico City!
Q: What advice do you have for incoming students?
Take and seize every opportunity that comes your way! Many people come into college thinking they know exactly what they want to do but this is the chance to give new things a try. UT has so much to offer.
Don’t follow the typical job paths or join the biggest clubs, go the extra mile to find your niche or even create your own student organization. Two of my most unique and memorable opportunities during my time at UT was becoming a part of the first executive board of the Tech Consulting Group (TCG) and interning for UT‘s Office of Academic Technology during the last semester of my senior year.
Also, I was given this piece of advice as a freshman by a senior at the time: never take any grade or job rejection too seriously, everything happens for a reason and it’ll all work out the way it’s supposed to.
Finally, and most importantly, maintain a good network throughout your years. You never know who may be a coworker at your summer internship or first job!
How former Slack and Twitter Executive April Underwood, BBA ’01, created a career in venture capital
April Underwood began investing while at X, then called Twitter, where she was the company’s director of product. She received a windfall from the social-media company’s November 2013 initial public offering and was eager to use this money toward making angel investments. She made her first angel investment in the healthcare-test maker Cue Health. READ MORE
Doug Prechter has over 10 years of corporate finance and operations experience in the energy sector, including RNG, oilfield services, and investment banking. Prior to joining Vision RNG, Doug was the Vice President of Finance & Strategy for Monarch Bioenergy, an ag-based RNG producer, and previously was a member of Evercore’s energy investment banking team where he executed over $9.0 billion in M&A, private capital, and restructuring transactions. Before Evercore, he served in various operations management roles with SLB. Doug graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and received his M.B.A. from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas. READ MORE
Ella Benson brings over a decade of experience in financial services and is a Director at Oasis Management Co., Ltd. (“Oasis”). She has substantial experience working with public companies undergoing strategic transitions. Prior to joining Oasis in 2013, Benson was an analyst at GAM, an independent asset management firm, from 2009 to 2013. Benson holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. READ MORE
UTSA encourages students of all levels to pursue transformative learning experiences outside of the classroom with opportunities such as research, volunteering and mentorship, and study away programs. UTSA Top Scholar Cory Nguyen ’18 took advantage of all three. He conducted vaccine research as a freshman, traveled to South Korea as a senior and was both a mentor and mentee in between.
After completing his bachelor’s degree at UTSA, Nguyen attended the McCombs School of Business at UT Austin and earned a master’s degree in business analytics. From there, he landed a job at Chevron as a data scientist in Houston, where he has worked since 2019. READ MORE
