The Cancer and Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), the largest state funder of cancer research in the nation, has gained a new board member with the appointment of Dallas attorney Thomas “Tommy” Taylor. Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick appointed Taylor to serve on the CPRIT Oversight Committee for a term that expires January 31, 2029.

He holds BBA, JD and LLM degrees, and is licensed in the State of Texas and the Supreme Court of the United States.
“The mission of CPRIT – to expedite innovation in research and enhance the potential of breakthroughs in prevention and cures – is very personal to me as my parents, siblings, daughter, brother-in-law and son-in-law all experienced different forms of cancer in their lives, some fatal,” said Taylor. “With my appointment, I hope I can contribute in some manner to the success of this goal for my family and for the citizens of the State of Texas.”
Taylor also has a long record of public service, including previous work with The University of Texas System Chancellor’s Council, the Baylor Scott & White Foundation, and the Steve Hicks School of Social Work at The University of Texas at Austin.
