5Y Accounting Student Scholarship: must be submitted to the MPA office no later than 5:00 p.m. Friday, October 23

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must…

  • Be a Texas resident *and* either a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident.
  • Be committed to earning a Texas CPA license.
  • Be enrolled at UT for at least 6 hours this fall.
  • Have a GPA of at least 3.00 (the lack of a UT GPA is OK for newly admitted T-MPAs).
  • Have registered for Selective Service (or be exempt).
  • Have submitted a FAFSA for the 15-16 academic year and have demonstrated financial need.
  • Have completed a bachelor’s degree or at least 120 hours of college coursework by the beginning of this fall.
  • Have completed at least 15 hours of accounting (if you won’t reach 15 hours until after the fall, you might be eligible for a spring award, assuming funds are available).
  • Have no more than 30 hours remaining to meet the education requirements to take the CPA exam.
  • Have *not* yet satisfied all CPA exam eligibility requirements for Texas.
  • Have submitted an Application of Intent to take the CPA exam (see below).

Application of Intent: recommended to submit no later than 5:00 p.m., October 23

You must submit an Application of Intent (the Texas CPA exam application) to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy in order to be considered for this scholarship.  Therefore it is important that you submit an Application of Intent within the next few weeks even if you won’t begin the CPA exam until spring or summer of 2016.  The Application of Intent process can be somewhat cumbersome, so these information sessions are intended to give you much-needed guidance.  If you aren’t eligible or interested in applying for the scholarship, but you still want to know how to apply for the CPA exam in Texas, then you will still benefit from attending a workshop.

Note: These workshops will only address the CPA application in Texas. If you plan to get licensed in another state, please make an appointment with your advisor or attend their walk-ins.
