Resume Book for Returning MPAs

MPA students who are graduating in 2013 are eligible for this resume book edition.

You have the opportunity to join other traditional and fifth-year MPA job-seekers in the Fall 2013 MPA Resume Book.  Since this publication is made available to all McCombs employers, it’s a great way to get a lot of exposure early in the fall recruiting season.  While participation in the book is optional, it’s highly recommended.  Many major employers use the book to determine their invitation lists for recruiting events.  To be part of this valuable resource, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Format your resume according to the new Traditional MPA Resume Template and Guidelines (attached).  The requirements are slightly different from previous years.  The format has been carefully developed through feedback and input from a variety of employers, students and career services professionals.  A sample resume is attached as an added reference.
  • Attend a resume round table session or schedule a resume review with an MPA career consultant prior to the resume submission deadline. Your resume is your first impression with employers, so we want to help ensure it’s a good one.  Information describing these two options and how to reserve your spot is included below.
  • Submit your resume to the resume book through the On-Campus Recruiting (OCR) system no later than 11:59 p.m. on July 17 according to the instructions below.
    • Log into https://msb-utexas-csmlmm.symplicity.com/sso/students.
    • Complete the assessments.  To use the system, you will need to review the Code of Ethics.  Please read it thoroughly and acknowledge your agreement to our policies.
    • Review your profile.
      • Personal Tab:  Ensure your name and contact information is complete and correct.
      • Academic Tab:  Update your anticipated date of graduation from the MPA program, your work eligibility, and your top 3 geographic location preferences.  NOTE:  Your location preferences will be sent to employers along with the resume book.  While they are not necessarily final, it is important to choose them thoughtfully.
      • Privacy Tab: If you want to be included in resume books, select “yes” under “Include in Resume Books.”  Also, review/update your text message preference.
  • Upload and submit your document.
    • Click on the Documents tab and select the “Add New” button.
    • Give your document a professional name that will help you distinguish it in a list (i.e. Resume Book).
    • Browse for your resume and select submit.
    • Select the Opt-in Resume Book tab.
    • Click the “Select Resume Books” button.  Select the checkbox for MPA Fall 2013 Resume Bookin the “Target Opt-In Resume Book” field.  Click submit.
