The world is evolving, and global energy demand is shifting to meet the needs of a more modernized society. At the same time, the U.S. is entering an era in which markets, technologies and policies are enabling dramatic increases in production of oil, gas, wind, solar and bioenergy — in turn affecting global economies, the environment, and our national security posture.

In a lecture for the Texas Enterprise Speaker Series, Professor Michael Webber will identify the key trends that are reshaping the energy sector, including economic and population growth, industrialization, an expanding electrical grid, smarter energy systems, and a policy push for domestic, low-carbon, and renewable fuels.

The discussion will focus on how a newfound shift in economic philosophy is creating new business opportunities in the energy sector, allowing companies to increase profit margins while decreasing resource consumption — which will simultaneously boost the economy and protect the environment.

Learn:

• How your business can be in a better position to succeed in a rapidly changing energy industry and turbulent environmental and world economic environment.

• How to prepare for a world with different price curves, different environmental regulations, and new sources of energy.

Presented by Michael Webber, Ph.D.

Michael Webber is the Josey Centennial Fellow in Energy Resources, Co-Director of the Clean Energy Incubator at the Austin Technology Incubator, and Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, where he trains a new generation of energy leaders through research and education at the intersection of engineering, policy, and commercialization.

He has authored more than 150 scientific articles, columns, books and book chapters, including a compendium of his commentary titled Changing the Way America Thinks About Energy, which was published in May 2009.

Webber is on the board of advisors for Scientific American, holds four patents, and is one of the originators of the Pecan Street Project, which is a $30 million public-private partnership for smart grid innovation and deployment.
