BDO is looking for an audit associate for immediate start in their Austin office.

Desired Work Eligibility: Eligible to work in the U.S. with no restrictions.

As an Associate on our Assurance Team, you will begin to utilize your educational background as well as your organizational skills as you work on clients of the Firm.  You will take direction from other, more experienced members of the Team as you assist in problem solving and fact-finding.  You will work on various stages of the audit, including fieldwork in the areas of compliance testing, cash, accounts receivable, inventories, fixed assets, accounts payable and accruals.  Typical responsibilities will include assisting in the preparation of financial statements, applying some areas of GAAP as necessary, and making suggestions to improve client internal controls and accounting procedures.

  • Applies knowledge and understanding of the collective effect of various factors on establishing or enhancing effectiveness, or mitigating the risks, of specific policies and procedures.
  • Identifies and considers all applicable policies, laws, rules, and regulations of the firm, regulators, or other authoritative bodies as part of engagement team;
  • Makes constructive suggestions to improve client internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • GAAP
  • Applies knowledge and understanding of governing principles to client transactions; and is able to document and communicate their understanding and the application of these principles.
  • Learns and applies basic knowledge of professional standards and practices to client situations.
  • GAAS
  • Applies knowledge and understanding of content and principles of professional standards; and is able to document and communicate their understanding and application of these on an engagement.
  • Develops and begins to apply basic knowledge of auditing theory, a sense of audit skepticism, and the use of BDO audit manuals;
  • Contribute ideas/opinions to the audit teams and listen/respond to other team members’ views.
  • Methodology

Applies knowledge and application of BDO standards that guide effective and efficient delivery of quality services and products.

  • Effectively completes BDO work paper documentation;
  • Is aware of BDO methodology and the basic requirements and ensures that the work they perform is in accordance with these.
  • Research

Applies methodology used to seek or maintain information from authoritative sources and to draw conclusions regarding a target issue based on that information.

  • Research basic accounting topics and form an initial opinion on the treatment independently.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters of accounting program
  • Eligible to sit for the CPA upon graduation
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat preferred
