Pay: $20 per hour
Purpose
Texas Career Engagement (TCE), Career Education team seeks a graduate student to help develop, grow and launch a new peer career mentoring program to serve Black/African American and Latinx University of Texas Austin first year students. The person in this role will help recruit, train, and oversee mentors; research and develop the program curriculum; and support the needs and successes of the mentors and mentees. The goal is to launch the mentoring program in spring 2020.
Essential Functions
- Research diversity, equity, and inclusion-based peer mentoring program and career peer mentoring program best practices, including contacting other offices and universities that offer similar programs.
- Outline the responsibilities and roles for the program mentors and mentees as informed by both best practices and the goals of TCE.
- Create training curriculum and onboarding plan to be delivered virtually to peer mentors starting late fall 2020; utilize technology to develop training materials.
- Develop a curriculum informed by learning outcomes to guide the program for mentor-mentee activities and interactions.
- Supervise mentors and facilitate program in spring 2021.
- Work with the TCE data outcomes team to assess and measure program outcomes.
Required qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong content creation and delivery skills; technological proficiency.
- Interest in and experience with college student-based learning and/or development programs.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work independently.
- Demonstrated initiative and follow-through skills; punctuality and professional demeanor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing curriculum.
- Prior experience working with a peer mentoring program.
- Prior experience working in a university career services capacity.
