MyIDP is a free online tool created for scientists to assess their skills, interests, and values; explore and find potential future careers; and set goals to help you achieve your future career. In this interactive workshop you will use your myIDP skills, interests, and values assessments to evaluate your career options and customize your career goals.

Exploring Careers with Job Simulations

Job simulations can help you explore advanced degree career paths, narrow down options, and make informed career choices. The job sims are vetted by professionals with career expertise – the projects are true-to-task. During this session, you will complete a job sim, and then discuss professional skills and strengths for different fields. You will also learn how job simulations can help you network and prepare for interviews.

Speaker: Thi Nguyen, PhD (she/hers) is a career education speaker, freelance consultant, neuroscientist, and member of community-based organizations focused on equitable and inclusive learning.

During this interactive session, participants will learn how to effectively organize a job search for industry, nonprofit, and government positions. Prior to the session, participants will be provided with pre-work (a slide deck and videos) to learn job search strategies. The synchronous session is a casual, low stakes environment, with fellow graduate students, to ask more specific questions about job searching, while learning tangible ways to increase the effectiveness of a search.
