BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
•Required Major: Accounting
•Education Level: Baccalaureate or higher degree. Eligible to sit for CPA exam upon graduation.
•Internships are located in Houston, Texas. Some travel may be necessary.
•Internships are in our Accounting, Internal Audit, Tax, Central Evaluation Team and Treasury organizations.
•Internships are available for the Summer and Spring semesters.
•Authorization to work for any employer in the U.S. on a full-time, indefinite basis without need for sponsorship now or in the future
•Students must maintain at least a 3.0 Overall GPA.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
oJob responsibilities will be dependent upon the organization. Examples of work activities are:
oPreparation and validation of footnote disclosures in the External Reporting group
oDocumentation of processes, risks and controls in the Accounting Controls group
oPerforming transactional accounting and reconcilements in the Corporate and Upstream accounting group
oAssisting on financial and operational audits in the Internal Audit group
oPerforming tax compliance activities in the Tax organization
oPerforming cash management activities in the Treasury organization
oAssist on special projects in any of the groups mentioned above
JOB DESCRIPTION:
As an intern, you will receive on-the-job training related to the dynamics of the oil industry, the specifics of your job assignment, and the use of various software programs, especially SAP which is the standard system used for most of the F&A organization at Marathon. Additionally, you will be given the opportunity to interface with a variety of disciplines outside of the F&A organization and will develop a collaborative relationship with those disciplines.
After your internship, additional responsibilities will be added if you become a Marathon employee. These include progressing to more complex accounting and analysis activities and projects as well as increased participation in meetings and presentations. Critical thinking in determining the accounting treatment for complex business transactions is required and thoughts on improving processes to enhance efficiency is encouraged. As you progress, you will be given opportunities to work with and mentor less experienced accountants or perhaps be given the opportunity to perform as the lead analyst in an accounting or finance component.
The Finance and Accounting Organization is committed to developing accountants and analysts by providing them a variety of experience in different areas. Accountants that have demonstrated exceptional proficiency will be eligible for opportunities within other areas of the Company where the analytical skills are needed such as: Worldwide Production, Major Projects, Business Development, and Global Procurement.
