Liberal Arts Career Services is seeking new talent for its cutting-edge career coaching team to help our students develop their post-graduate plans. We see thousands of students each year who rely on us to help them develop career plans, write resumes and cover letters, research career fields and prepare for interviews.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented graduate student interested in helping our students make the most of their education and experience.  Good coaches are good listeners, able to think strategically, future-focused, positive, and are able to build rapport.  They also work independently and ask great questions that help the client move forward.  If you have the skills needed to be a good career coach, we will train you in the basics of career coaching, practice interviewing, resume writing, and more.  The position is open to any graduate student enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin and is paid hourly ($15/hour) for up to 15 hours/week and approximately 40 weeks/year.

As a career coach you will:

  • Provide job search assistance and career coaching to students, in individual and group formats, connecting the value of their liberal arts education to the workplace for full-time, part-time, summer, and internship opportunities.
  • Provide information, and answer questions regarding local, national, and international jobs and internships.
  • Coach students to produce professional resumes and cover letters as well as strong responses to interview questions.
  • Present workshops and programs related to career issues.
  • Develop web content, handouts and other materials for students.

To apply for the position:

Email a resume and cover letter by 5 p.m., Friday, April 15 to Neil Johnson, Senior Career Coach, Liberal Arts Career Services at: n.johnson@austin.utexas.edu.  Be sure to indicate in your cover letter how your skills match the talent we are seeking and include your general availability (days and times) for the fall semester based on your expected class schedule.  If you are also interested in summer employment, please include your availability (days and times) as well.  The position requires that you work up to 15 hours a week, primarily in the afternoon hours, but the days can be flexible depending on your schedule.
