This is the most asked interview question ever. Yet, it still makes some of us stumble. Interviewers like to ask this question because it is a nice ice-breaker that lets them get a little insight about the candidate sitting before them. So, how should you answer this question?

First of all, be sure to keep it concise and targeted, adapting your answer to the requirements of the position. Keep your answer to about 60-90 seconds if possible. Feature the following topics about yourself:

  • Brief introduction
  • Key accomplishments and strengths
  • Importance of these strengths and accomplishments to the prospective employer
  • Where and how you see yourself developing in the position for which you’re applying

When preparing for this question, it is important to know what you want to say so that you won’t have to memorize it. Remember, you want to sound sincere rather than rehearsed!
