MBA Admissions Updates Related to COVID-19

The University of Texas at Austin is committed to protecting the health and safety of our community, and we are taking university-wide steps to help reduce the public spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Our mission to educate and send the best and brightest into the world remains, but due to ongoing and serious health concerns, we are implementing new ways to uphold that mission.

We have made some admissions updates in response  and encourage you to review the most current admissions information and deadlines below.

In accordance with the University of Texas at Austin’s response to COVID-19, all classes will be delivered remotely for the rest of the spring semester, and all campus visits and in-person events have been canceled through at least May 1.

You can still connect with us virtually. We are offering virtual Info Sessions, Application Prep, and Admissions Chats for our Full-Time, Working Professional, and Executive MBA programs. Find details and registration info on our MBA Events calendar, which will allow you to filter events based on your specific program of interest.

Our admissions criteria and requirements have not changed, but to accommodate unexpected delays in your application process due to COVID-19, we have adjusted some of our upcoming application deadlines.

For Full-Time MBA Round 3 applicants – If you are impacted by testing center closures, we are allowing Full-Time MBA Round 3 applications to be submitted without a test score. You will be responsible for sending us your score as soon as you receive it; however, you do not have to pay the application fee until you can submit your test score and your application is considered complete. Please note that an admissions decision cannot be made until we receive your official test score. If your official score report is not received by May 7, 2020, your application will be rolled into Round 4 (for domestic applicants only) or withdrawn (international applicants). A withdrawn application is not a denial and will not impact applications in future cycles.

For Working Professional (MBA at DFW, MBA at Houston, Evening MBA) and Executive MBA applicants – If you are experiencing delays or have concerns about submitting your application by the deadline due to testing center closures, please reach out to us using the program-specific contact information below, and we can advise on your specific situation.

NEW Remote Testing Options
ETS has introduced a solution for students impacted by coronavirus to take theTOEFL iBT® test and the GRE® General Test at home until test centers can reopen. TOEFL® testing is scheduled to begin on March 26, and GRE testing will begin on March 27.

Testing will be conducted through the use of live remote proctoring serviced by ProctorU®. Find more details about security measures and answers to other questions you may have on the TOEFL and GRE web pages. Students can register in the following countries: United States, Canada, Colombia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Hong Kong (China), Macau (China).

GMAC is preparing an alternate GMAT™ exam available online mid-April. This interim GMAT exam will provide a comparable structure, number of items, and scoring as delivered in test centers. The Quant, Verbal and IR sections (no AWA section) will have the same number of items and the same time for completion, maintaining the same score scale for both the Section Scores and Total Score.

The check-in and security protocols will be modified to accommodate online delivery and remote proctors will be used to manage test integrity. The alternative test will be available in impacted markets, outside of mainland China. GMAC is continuing to work with the Chinese government authorities to present appropriate, alternative solutions for test takers in mainland China.

This interim solution will be offered at a lower price point than the standard GMAT exam to support our test takers and schools during this difficult time.  Visit the GMAC website for more info and additional details coming soon.

Admissions interviews will remain invite-only, but all interviews will be conducted virtually through final rounds for the Full-Time MBA, Executive MBA, MBA at DFW, and MBA at Houston programs. Virtual interviews will be conducted for the Evening MBA program until further notice.

Our Admissions team is working remotely, but we are available to answer any questions you have about our MBA programs and the application process.

We encourage you to attend one of our upcoming virtual events, and on behalf of the Texas McCombs MBA program, we hope that you and your loved ones remain safe and healthy. We are grateful to be surrounded by a dynamic, innovative, and resilient community at the University of Texas at Austin and hope you will consider joining us in the future. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out.
