Congratulations to Outmore Living, the Fall 2022 TVLIC Texas Champions!

The Fall 2022 Texas Venture Labs Investment Competition was held on Friday, December 9 featuring the top graduate student startups on the UT campus. Fifteen companies competed in three Semifinal rounds in the morning with the winners advancing to the Finals at the Crum Auditorium in the afternoon. For the first time in TVLIC history, our fourth finalist was a “wildcard,” chosen from a combination of their Semifinal score and their Nemec score. Our first ever wildcard just so happened to go on to be the winners of TVLIC!

Outmore Living was awarded the top prize of $15,000 for their patent pending temperaturecontrolled chair and couch with goal of providing warmth for their customers yearround. Kevin Long, Co-Founder and CEO of Outmore Living, is a current McComb’s School of Business MBA student. Long works alongside COO & Co-Founder, Alex Duncan, who graduated from McComb’s MBA program in Spring 2022.

The Texas Superstar and $5,000 prize went to Longhorn Life Sciences. Longhorn Life Sciences is developing the “Infection Detective,” a micro needle patch integrated into surgical bandages to enable early, objective identification of surgical infections.

The Texas Rising Star and $2,500 prize went to Pike Robotics. For owners of liquid product storage tanks who experience difficulty inspecting roof seals, Pike Robotics provides a next-gen robotic solution that can perform EPA mandated inspections while the tank is still in service.

FlipFly was the winner of the Sustainability Innovation Award and $5,000 prize. FlipFly is a one-stop platform for real estate investors who are completing Fix & Flip or Hold deals.

The award for Health Innovation and $5,000 prize went to Tano Pharmaceuticals. The mission of Tano Pharmaceuticals, led by Branson Berger and Sean Finney, is to improve patient care by selling wound treatments formulated from natural components that meet or exceed current products in the market. Tano Pharmaceuticals was also given the James D. Pippin Award and $1,000 for being the best veteran-led venture.

The winner of the Technology Commercialization Award and the $10,000 prize went to Trinity Tube. Trinity Tube is a medical device designed to care for preterm infants and monitor various health statuses such as heart rate, temperature, and more.

All fifteen teams also presented two-minute pitches in the E. Craig Nemec Elevator Challenge which awards a $1,000 prize to the top three presenters. The winners were Longhorn Life Sciences, Trinity Tube, and Outmore Living.

Congratulations to all of the graduate student startups who competed in the Fall 2022 TVLIC! And thanks to all of our judges, sponsors and volunteers who made it possible. Stay tuned for details on the next Texas Venture Labs Investment Competition.
