Spring 2013 Internship Requirements

Interning this spring?  Don’t forget that all of your materials, both hard copies of your paper and journal, as well as the online tasks, need to be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Friday April 19. This deadline is firm. If you’ve already finished your internship, you are encouraged to submit your paperwork early.

Please refer to the online syllabus, past posts in the MPA Blog, and e-mails that have been sent to you for further information regarding the requirements for earning credit for your internship. Incomplete or unprofessional components will not only need to be redone but will also result in the intern having to write an additional paper in order to receive credit.

Company Description: Nuve LLC is an international technology start-up focused on the emerging field of asset management and fraud prevention. We have a strong research and development engineering team based in Austin, Texas and a manufacturing and installation team based in Acuna, Mexico. Job Responsibilities: The company had a critical need to build an accounting system. We are also looking for an individual who can, who has and/or who is familiar with:

  • You are flexible and self-motivated.
  • Deep accounting/financial modeling background.
  • Familiarity with online [SaaS] accounting services – Previous experience deploying Quickbooks Enterprise is a plus
  • Strong writing skills are essential – Business Plans, Newsletters, Web Sites, Project Proposals
  • Familiarity with business development in a fast paced start up.
  • Fluency in Spanish is highly desired.
  • Fluency in Portuguese is a plus.

Job Qualifications: Nuveopen to BBA, MBA, MPA or PhD students. Ideally the optimal candidate will have prior business experience. Experience building a company is a plus.

Spring 2013 Internships

Some reminders: the deadline for the MPA Program Office to receive the hard copies of your paper and journal, and for you to complete your online tasks is Friday April 19 at 5:00 p.m.  Paperwork may also be mailed to the MPA Program Office as long as it is postmarked by April 19.  A submission time of 5:01 p.m. is considered late, so make sure to turn in your paperwork on time or you will be assigned to write an additional research paper in order to earn credit for the class.

You are encouraged to read and review the “Requirements and Deadlines” document that is online and which has been e-mailed to you.  You also should keep up with your McCombs e-mails or have the e-mails forwarded to your personal account, so that you do not miss any important notices regarding your internship.

Spring Internship: Chief Auditor’s Office

Internship Description:

Objectives: To provide interns an opportunity to be exposed to and apply basic internal audit concepts and methodologies. These concepts and methodologies will be applied while conducting assurance audits or providing advisory services.

Duties: Assist audit project managers with the implementation of audit programs to address specific audit objectives. Administrative and research projects may also be assigned.

This paid internship is for the Spring of 2013.  The position requires a minimum of 20 hours per week and a maximum of 40.

Required:
Must be enrolled in the Spring 2013 semester as a graduate or undergraduate student or have graduated with a bachelors or masters degree in 2012. Undergraduate students must have achieved Junior status or higher.

Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Experience using facilitation and instructional skills
  • Specific internal auditing knowledge (or course work), including internal controls and risk assessment.
  • Specific knowledge of management principles (or course work), including the basic functions of planning, organizing, directing, evaluating and controlling.
  • Ability to organize assigned work, set time frames, prioritize and meet goals.
  • Effectively work in a professional team environment.

The applicant selected for this paid internship must pass a background check and will be an employee of Peak Performers and not an employee of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Summer Internships

UBS Financial Services Internship

When:  September 2012

Hours: 2 – 3 days per week (4 hours per day)

Rate: Paid Internship

Requirements:  Junior or higher.  Finance or Accounting majors.  GPA >3.0, US Citizenship.

Work Scope:  Provide support for 3 Financial Advisors and Client Service

Associate in client reporting, marketing and other administrative efforts.  A student with interest in the Financial Services Industry would be preferred.  Looking for someone for a 1-2 yr commitment.  Must have excellent communication skills.

Explore Careers and Connect with Alumni in Washington D.C.

The Washington DC Texas Exes have re-launched the Welcome to the Beltway Washington DC career exploration program. University of Texas students and recent alumni get to meet and mingle with Texas Exes living and working in D.C. to learn about a variety of careers in the District. Over the visit, the students meet with Federal Agency staff; Congressional staff; senior policy analysts; software, engineering, and IT professionals working in the government sector; seasoned political journalists for newspapers and magazines; lawyers; campaign strategists; non-profit professionals; and many others.

The 2012 program is open to all UT System undergraduate and graduate students and recent alumni. As part of the program, attendees will participate in office visits and industry information panels led by Texas Exes, a welcome dinner with the DC Texas Exes, and a networking reception with professionals in a multitude of fields.
