American Interview Culture: How to Leverage Your International Experience

During this session participants will learn the hidden expectations of interviewing in the US. During the interactive portion of the workshop, you will have an opportunity to identify your value and practice articulating and leveraging your international experience in a low stake environment in preparation for your future interviews.

Introduction to Research Careers for Advanced Degrees
Thursday, April 1, 5-6:30PM
Hear from researchers who work in industry, government, and nonprofits what their work entails, how they discovered this career path, their transition from graduate school, and their recommendations for graduate students getting started in this career. This event consists of a 50 minute panel discussion followed by 40 minutes of small breakout rooms where attendees can meet with individual panelists.

Navigating and Succeeding in a Job Search as an LGBTQ+ Person
Tuesday, April 6, 5-6:30PM
A person’s sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression impacts our lives in many ways, including our careers. During a job search or the career exploration process, LGBTQ+ individuals can have many different questions about how our life experiences can impact or be impacted by a job search. During this interactive workshop we will discuss self-care during a job search, managing one’s job search documents, navigating potential job search pitfalls, and how to interact well with prospective employers.

Queer Careers
Friday, April 9, 11 AM – 2PM
Come and learn from LGBTQIA+ professionals, get career guidance, and meet your potential next employer at Queer Careers! This collaborative event hosted by the Gender and Sexuality Center and Texas Career Engagement will include opening and closing remarks, two panels with LGBTQIA+ professionals and UT alumni, and small group office hours with LGBTQIA+ inclusive employers. This is an event for undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni who have graduated within 1 year of the event date. All disciplines welcome.

Sustainability on Tap (Careers Edition!)
Thursday, April 15, 5-6:30PM
We’re looking for grad student presenters! Showcase your sustainability or environmental research, project, or passion to your peers in 3 easy minutes. All you need is 5 PowerPoint slides, an environmental/social sustainability angle, and a sense of fun. Any and all presentation ideas are welcome! Priority given to submissions received by April 4. Submit your idea to https://bit.ly/SoT_Present_Sp21 . This Spring’s Sustainability on Tap will be limited to approximately 8 presenters who will be selected to best showcase the diversity of sustainability and environmental fields.
In this special Careers Edition of Sustainability on Tap, UT advanced-degree alumni will also be sharing their career journeys. There will be a short networking session with the alumni after the presentations. Get a head start and RSVP now. Part of Earth Month, this event is co-hosted by the Office of Sustainability and Texas Career Engagement.
The CONNECT Program
Looking for a part-time and flexible fellowship opportunity this Summer? The CONNECT program aims to increase data, measurement and evaluation capacity within community organizations through the use of an online platform to match organizations’ projects with graduate students at UT looking for applied and practical experience in the social sector.
