The McCombs School Announces New BBA Advisory Board Members and Executive Committee Leadership for Fall 2018

The McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin announces the appointment of the following members to its BBA Advisory Board.

The McCombs School would like to thank our new members and leaders and also thank outgoing leaders Erin Patten, who has become an emeritus member having served as vice chair, chair, and past chair respectively during the past three years, and also Angela Morisette, who has finished her one-year term as values ambassador chair. Additionally, Cameron Chandler, Terese Everson, Maria Garate, Meagan Gates, Angela Moras, and Sean Waggoner have been reappointed for a second active term, and Bethany Rolan has been appointed for her first three-year term having served the previous year as the Rising Star representative. The McCombs School of Business BBA Advisory Board formed in 2008. Members assist the dean, associate dean of undergraduate programs, faculty, and staff of the McCombs School of Business in achieving and maintaining “best of class” status for the BBA programs. Members support the BBA program’s strategy planning, curricula, external affairs, alumni engagement, fundraising efforts, and student placement. Member nominations are accepted on a rolling basis. The executive committee considers nominations for membership each spring and new three-year terms begin Sept. 1.

Class Note: Stacy J. Smith, BBA ’85, MBA ’88

Stacy J. Smith has been promoted to Executive Chairman for Toshiba Memory Corporation.

Smith brings a long and proven track record of executive leadership to TMC. He has extensive international experience, having both lived and led organizations in the Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He will work closely with CEO Yasuo Naruke to provide overall leadership to the business.

“I am excited to take on this important challenge, and honored to join the TMC team,” said Smith. “Toshiba invented flash memory, and with TMC now operating as an independent company with increased capacity to invest in developing and growing semiconductor technology, the company has a strong growth trajectory ahead of it.” Read More. 

Class Note: Ryan Stash, BBA ’00, MPA ’00, MBA ’07

Regions Bank announced that Ryan Stash has joined the Energy & Natural Resources group as a Managing Director with an emphasis on covering corporate clients and prospects across the entire energy platform to support Regions’ capital markets expansion. Stash will be based in Houston, Texas, and will report to Brian Tate, Executive Managing Director of Regions Securities LLC, and group head of Energy & Natural Resources.  Following Stash’s hiring, Regions Bank, a subsidiary of Alabama-based Regions Financial Corp. (NYSE: RF), has expanded its energy and natural resources platform.

Stash brings more than 16 years of investment banking, capital markets, and consulting experience. Stash has originated, structured, and executed numerous complex, event-driven financings and provided advisory services for upstream and midstream clients. Over his career at Wells Fargo Securities, Stash has a demonstrated history of developing relationships and originating lead roles that significantly impact a broader capital markets and advisory platform. Dean Jay Hartzell and the New York for McCombs (NYFM) Board gathered among other fellow alumni to welcome the Texas McCombs Class of 2018 graduates who recently moved to NYC. Recent graduates had to opportunity to broaden their network and connect with other Longhorns.

Class Note: Emil Sayegh, MSTC ’96

Emil Sayegh, CEO and President of Hostway, will be speaking about “multi” hybrid cloud environments at the company’s 10th annual Cloud Expo in New York City.

Emil Sayegh is an early pioneer of cloud computing and is recognized as one of the industry’s true veterans. A cloud visionary, he is credited with launching and leading the cloud computing and hosting businesses for HP, Rackspace, and Codero. Emil built the Rackspace cloud business while serving as the company’s GM of the Cloud Computing Division. Earlier at Rackspace he served as VP of the Product Group and launched the company’s private cloud and hosted exchange services. He later moved on to HP where he served as VP of Cloud Service and initiated the company’s public cloud services. In 2012, Emil joined Codero Hosting as Chairman, President, and CEO and led the next generation of cloud computing with the hybrid cloud. In 2015 he led the successful sale of Codero to a consortium of telecom companies. Since 2016, Emil has held the position of President and CEO at Hostway in Austin, Texas. Read more. 

Class Note: Lisa Coreless, MBA ’14

Lisa Corless has been promoted to president and Chief Executive Officer of AF Group, a subsidiary of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

“AF Group’s continued success is a testament to Lisa’s outstanding operational expertise and visionary leadership,” said Daniel J. Loepp, president and Chief Executive Officer, BCBSM. “Her proven industry knowledge and extensive experience will help AF Group further expand its reach and create value for its customers.”

As president of AF Group since 2016, Corless assumes CEO duties from Elizabeth Haar, who is now BCBSM executive vice president and president of Emerging Markets. The promotion is an expansion of duties for Corless, who will maintain responsibility for the day-to-day operations of AF Group.

“AF Group and Lisa continue to be an integral part of the Emerging Markets team,” said Haar. “This announcement recognizes AF Group’s consistent excellence and the confidence I have in Lisa’s ability to guide the company to new and exciting opportunities. Class Note: David Muse, MBA ’04

Class Note: Matthew Brogdon, BS ’99, MBA ’06

Guggenheim Securities, the investment banking and capital markets division of Guggenheim Partners, announced today that Matthew Brogdon has joined the firm as a Senior Managing Director in the firm’s Houston-based Oil and Gas investment banking group.

Mr. Brogdon brings over two decades of experience advising and managing oil and gas companies and assets. He joins Guggenheim most recently from Citigroup where he was Co-Head of the Energy Acquisitions & Divestitures (A&D) Group. Before Citigroup, Mr. Brogdon served as Chief Operating Officer of a private oil and gas company. Prior to that role, he served in the Corporate Advisory Practice at Evercore Partners, where he focused on M&A and capital raising for energy firms. He began his career in engineering roles with ExxonMobil and Netherland Sewell & Associates. Read more
