Dr. Charles Henry Griffin, BBA ’42, MBA ’48 and PhD ’53, passed away on July 29, 2016. He began his career on the Texas Accounting faculty in 1962. A gifted educator, he was honored with the Jack G. Taylor Teaching Excellence Award, the UT Students’ Association Teaching Excellence Award and the College of Business Administration Student Council Teaching Excellence Award.

Charlie held visiting appointments at the University of Illinois, San Diego State University, the University of Manchester (England) and the London Graduate School of Business, among others. His textbook “Advanced Accounting” achieved eight editions, and as a financial accounting and accounting theory expert, he authored or co-authored 40 research articles in the discipline. Charlie was the first Texas Accounting faculty member to serve as senior editor of The Accounting Review.

After retiring from teaching in 1993, Charlie served as an emeritus faculty member until he passed.
