After Admission: Deciding Your MBA Offer

Making it through the MBA application process to receive an offer of admission from Texas McCombs is a big accomplishment! But it is not the end of your MBA admissions journey– the decision process goes both ways and you must accept your offer of admission to be enrolled in the next class. As a driven and competitive MBA candidate,  you may be deciding between offers at multiple business schools. Everyone’s individual decision is different, but a few common themes always come up when we ask our students, “Why McCombs?”

Student Spotlight: From UT Austin Undergrad to Texas McCombs MBA

MBA 2019, Lily Trieu

MBA 2019, Lily Trieu,  graduated from UT Austin in 2008 with a BBA degree from McCombs. She came into the MBA program with goals of focusing on Public and Governmental Affairs and Nonprofit Studies. We recently reached out to her for perspective on why she chose to come back to McCombs for grad school as one of our “double Longhorns.”

As a UT Austin undergrad, how did you approach researching Business Schools? What were you looking for in a graduate degree?

As I researched graduate programs, I looked for business schools that provided expertise in innovative areas like technology and entrepreneurship – not only in their academic program but in the access students would have in the community. Not only did I want the opportunity to learn from some of the best professors in the world, I wanted the chance to apply those learnings with practitioners who were living it. I also looked for programs that would allow me to access university courses outside of the business school in areas such as policy, law and other disciplines. While an outstanding business school was important, so was the ability to grow my expertise in other areas. Having attended UT Austin as an undergrad, I knew how important it was to have access to a wide range of quality academics and subject matters.

Why did you choose Texas McCombs over other MBA programs?

Ultimately, the decision to return to McCombs was driven by culture. After meeting students and alumni of other programs, it really affirmed that there is no alumni network like UT Austin and no culture more driven by collaboration and innovation like McCombs. Beyond that, I was really drawn to the amazing opportunities available in Austin. With one of the largest economies and amazing growth rates, Texas creates many opportunities for those who are interested in being at the forefront of business. Although I spent time as an undergraduate student in Austin, the pace of change in this city is amazing and it feels like I’m rediscovering it every day.
