Meet Evie Shaw an alum of the program that majored in Canfield BHP and Management Information Systems with a Certificate in Digital Arts and Media. Originally an Austin-native, but has since lived in New York City for the past one and a half years.
“I was drawn to the program because of the tight knit community. I liked how the Canfield BHP cohort was small, and we had classes every year with the same people. I got to know my peers well, they became my friends, and they’re all doing amazing in their fields!”
Evie is now a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology in a one-year AAS in Fashion Design program. Prior to studying fashion, Evie was with Boston Consulting Group for two and a half years as a consultant working primarily in the private equity practice in Brooklyn. “When I was recruiting for consulting, Canfield BHP provided me with a great community of peers and friends to help me through the process. I often ran cases with my other Canfield BHP friends.” Evie said when reflecting on her time in the program.
“I have always loved clothes and fashion design. My mom was a big source of inspiration for this passion. She also went to fashion design school and currently owns her own bridal accessories company. She taught me how to sew from a very young age and since then, I’ve been upcycling and making my own clothes. My time at BCG was invaluable. I had the opportunity to work with very smart and talented people. However, I ultimately decided it was time to leave and pursue my dream of becoming a fashion designer.”.
In addition to fashion and design, Evie practices photography and videography. “I love documenting my life. Being a photographer, I have always been fascinated by capturing memories. Sharing my work online is a way for me to document my processes and progress.” Starting off in photography, Evie branched out into videography, “Cinematography was naturally the next step to capturing memories and storytelling. I also love watching movies in my free time.”. When asked what her favorite part of making a film is, Evie said “I love editing and coloring the film. It’s a great feeling to look back on the footage and feel proud of what was captured. Coloring the film brings it to life.”
Evie has some parting advice for currents students, “Never let fear of failure be the reason why you don’t try something.”
