Agenda Ideas
Blog Titles by Dave W.
A training topic for all the blog stewards, including faculty, should be headlines. As I look at the Blogs tab on the home page I’m struck by how bland and non-descriptive many of the titles are. It is difficult to know what to look at, because headlines don’t really tell me much about the content.
The Big Picture
Thinking Lean
Three Months In
Is Today Really Just Yesterday?
Market Update January 4th
These may be “clever” headlines if you are already intent on absorbing the whole article, but we need to steer them towards a bit more description in a headline, in order to draw in readers (and help with SEO):
The Big Picture on Choosing Your Major
Thinking Lean: Identifying Waste in Accounting Work
Three Months into My Big 4 Auditing Assignment
They can look at McCombs TODAY for examples of how to write a better headline for the blog medium.
On the topic of SEO, I think some of the stewards need some instruction on SEO basics. What makes an effective headline, what makes an effective first paragraph? What terms should I make sure I’m using in the first half of the piece, etc.
