On January 31, 10 McCombs students from various McCombs Affiliated Student Organizations came together to compete for the title of “Mr. McCombs.” Mr. McCombs is an annual male beauty pageant that serves to showcase the different talents of McCombs students and raise money for charity. The competition is comprised of the Friday competition as well as a week long Penny Wars in which each contestant’s organizations went head to head in a fundraising game. The Mr. McCombs winner gets to donate all the money raised to the charity of his choice. During the show, the contestants were judged based on talent, personality, and audience support. They started off the night with an outfit of choice section during which the contestants were asked one question each. The next section was a swimsuit modeling section. The night concluded with the talent portion.
In total, ~$2300 was raised of which ~$1100 was from the Penny Wars and ~$1200 from the show itself. ALPFA’s Daniel Novotny was voted “Mr. Congeniality” by his fellow Mr. McCombs contestants, and HBSA’s Oscar Barbosa won the title of Mr. McCombs. The $2300 will be going to the Central Texas Home for Children, Oscar’s charity of choice. Oscar serves as the president of the Hispanic Student Business Association and is a business honors/finance senior from Brownsville, Texas. Congratulations Daniel and Oscar!
