Embed a YouTube Video in PowerPoint

October 9th, 2009 · PowerPoint · Useful Web Sites · Posted by Jeff Hauger

Several months ago we linked to an article about how to embed a YouTube video in PowerPoint. We still get questions about it pretty regularly, so I though I’d write up some instruction and post them again.

NOTE: When presenting you must have a live internet connection or your embedded YouTube video will not play.

This is great! I didn’t know you could do this. Everybody always closes PowerPoint to play a video. I can’t wait to try it out.

I’ve been having diffuclty with my online classmates being able to view the embedded video in my presentations I post. Do they have to enable shockwave flash on their computers also in order to view the video clip in my presentation?

Rhonda - PowerPoint embeds YouTube videos as Shockwave Flash Objects, so your classmates viewing your presentation will need to view with a web browser that has Shockwave video enabled, if you are hosting your presentation online. Also, if you send your presentation to someone, they must be connected to the internet when viewing your PowerPoint in order for the video to play.
