Change Case Button and a Great Keyboard Shortcut

April 17th, 2009 · Keyboard Shortcuts · Office 2007 · Outlook · PowerPoint · Word · Posted by Holly Green

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve typed a few sentences, then realized that Caps Lock was on.  And then there are all the times I’ve typed a title in a document, then decided that I wanted to capitalize the first letter of every word.  In the past, I would retype the text, or change the first letter of each word, but not anymore.

In Word 2007 and PowerPoint 2007, there is a great new button on the Home tab of the ribbon called Change Case.

Select your text, click on the Change Case button, and select how you would like to change your text from the menu that drops down.

Don’t have Office 2007?

No problem!  In Office 2003 and earlier, you can select your text and use the keyboard shortcut Shift + F3.  Hold down the Shift key and press F3.  Keep holding down Shift and pressing F3 and Word will toggle through different case options.  If you have punctuation at the end of a string of words, the program will assume it is a sentence and not capitalize each word of the text string.  This will work in Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, but not Excel.

Thank you for posting this. I’m doing a project in my IT class and I couldn’t find the “UPPERCASE” button.
