Our Mission
The PCAOB is a nonprofit corporation established by Congress to oversee the audits of public companies in order to protect the interests of investors and further the public interest in the preparation of informative, accurate and independent audit reports.

The PCAOB also oversees the audits of broker-dealers, including compliance reports filed pursuant to federal securities laws, to promote investor protection.

Job Description:
The PCAOB is seeking highly motivated students for paid, full and part-time positions for the Fall 2013 semester. Successful candidates will provide support to the PCAOB’s Office of Research and Analysis (ORA) in the Washington, DC headquarters. ORA identifies and analyzes emerging audit and accounting issues that may present elevated risk of audit failure, and communicates these risks to the PCAOB’s other divisions.

Responsibilities:
As an Intern you will have the opportunity to gain a broad overview of trends and developments affecting audit firms and their audit clients and experience professional life before you’ve left school. You will also learn about, and use, analytical tools and methods and gain experience that will make you more marketable to prospective employers.

During your employment you will be assigned a variety of tasks and challenging assignments that will allow you to develop and showcase initiative and problem solving abilities while developing your risk analysis skills. You will collect and analyze financial and non-financial information acquired from external sources or PCAOB oversight activities and conduct research and analysis using a variety of tools. At the end of the program you will have the opportunity to review your performance using some of the same standards used to review full time employees.

Positions are available throughout the year, but we are currently hiring Fall Interns. Candidates are encouraged to apply for start dates in August/September 2013 with internships to conclude by December 31, 2013.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current academic enrollment at the undergraduate (Junior or above) or graduate level with an Accounting, Economics, Business or Finance major;

KIPP: Houston Public Schools Accounting Internship

Nature and Scope
KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) is a national network of 125 free, open-enrollment public charter schools.  KIPP’s mission is to develop in underserved students the academic skills, intellectual habits, and qualities of character necessary to succeed at all levels of pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, college, and the competitive world beyond.

Internship Summary
The Accounting Intern will report directly to the Director of Accounting and play a key role in the annual audit of KIPP: Houston Public Schools. The intern will gain valuable experience in all aspects of the KIPP Accounting group. KIPP is on the forefront of technology so the intern will see directly how technology is increasing the efficiency of major non-profits such as KIPP through the use of Excel, VBA, DropBox and Adobe Acrobat XI.

This position is funded by Shell and is part of the 2013 Shell Nonprofit Internship Program. This is a paid internship of approximately $2,500 over 8 weeks starting on June 3rd, 2013.

Responsibilities

  • Accounts Payable – 2 weeks – Input vendor invoices, ensuring transaction dates are correct. Ensure items are posted in the proper fiscal year. Print checks and work directly with the AP Senior Specialist.
  • Accounts Receivable – 2 weeks – Input cash receipts, ensuring revenue is booked in the proper period. Work directly with A/R Staff Accountant.
  • Fixed Assets – 2 weeks – Work directly with Fixed Assets Staff Accountant to ensure depreciation is properly accounted for. Ensure capital additions are properly accounted for using Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Audit – 2 weeks and ongoing – Gather support for the audit. Ensure audit support ties to lead schedules. Work directly with the Director of Accounting to ensure auditors receive support in a timely manner. This will be essential in reducing audit costs for KIPP Houston.

Qualifications

  • Must be an Accounting major with over 60 hours of college credit
  • Overall GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Major GPA of 3.5 or above
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently/as a self-starter
  • Team-oriented and dependable
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word office software recommended
  • Strong work ethic and an outgoing personality

Spring Internship- Peak Performers

Objectives:  The intern will be exposed to basic internal audit concepts and methodologies.  These concepts and methodologies could include both assurance and advisory services. 

Duties: Assist audit project managers with the implementation of audit programs to address specific audit objectives.  Administrative and research projects may also be assigned.

This paid internship is for 30 to 40 hours per week.  The applicant selected for this paid internship will be an employee of Peak Performers and not the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Qualifications

Required:
* Have been enrolled in the Fall 2011,
*  Be currently enrolled as a graduate student, 
*  Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student (having completed 60 or more hours), or 
*  Have graduated with a bachelors or masters degree after May 2010.

Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

* Working knowledge of business risks and controls
