Dear Graduate Students (tMPAs & rising 5th years)

The Graduate Student Assembly is calling for Representatives for the 2018-2019 year!

Do any of the following interest you?

  • Advocating for graduate student rights and welfare
  • Making new friends
  • Meeting graduate students from a wide range of disciplines
  • Free pizza

If so, read on for info on becoming a GSA Representative for your department!

What is the GSA?
The GSA is recognized as the official voice of graduate students at UT. They are a legislative student organization that advocates for graduate student rights, welfare, and interests to the University administration. Without input from GSA, decisions important to the lives of graduate students would be made by administrators and other student organizations that often have different perspectives and priorities than graduate students.

What is a GSA Representative?
Each area of graduate study is represented on the Assembly by a Primary Representative and an Alternate Representative. The Primary Representative is responsible for attending Assembly meetings, and acts as the voting member. If the Primary Rep cannot attend a meeting, the Alternate may attend in their place, and will act as the voting member for that meeting.

When are meetings held?
Meetings are held every other week, on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. Everyone starts gathering around 5 p.m. for pizza and mingling before each meeting–that’s free dinner twice a month! The first meeting is on September 5, 2018.

How do I become a Representative?
Elections of Representatives are left up to each department. Anyone interested in becoming a GSA Rep for the MPA Program should contact MPAOffice@mccombs.utexas.edu. If you are confirmed as having been selected, you will be provided with a Certification Form to complete to email to the Membership Director.

Please consider representing your department/graduate program on the Assembly. Your participation ensures that all graduate student voices are heard!

If you have any questions about the GSA itself, please contact the GSA Membership Director: Madison Gove (gove.madison@gmail.com).
