Application tip: Plan ahead

October 20th, 2009 · Application Tips · Posted by Keri Ledezma

Each year, I am contacted by a number of concerned applicants who haven’t completed their applications by the deadline. Typically, two of the most common mistakes could have been avoided with proper planning:

1) GMAT - Your file will be referred to our department for a decision after all application materials, including the official test scores, have been received. Be sure to take your exam well in advance, because it will take 2-3 weeks for our admissions center to receive the official score report once requested. Please refer to my previous blog post for additional tips on the GMAT.

2) Recommendation letters - Your references will receive instructions for submitting the online recommendation approximately 24-48 hours after you have submitted your online application. Submit your application early so that your references have plenty of time to supply their recommendations.

Once our admissions center has received your application for admission, you will receive an assigned UT EID so that you can log into the application status check. This site will allow you to monitor the status of your application materials, resend the Request for Reference e-mail to your recommenders, or add a new recommender.
