Hello, prospective students! My name is Keri Ledezma, and I am the admissions manager for the Master in Professional Accounting (MPA) program at The University of Texas at Austin. After working in MPA admissions for six years, I am delighted with the opportunity to create an admissions blog. My goal with this blog is to keep you updated on the MPA admissions process and program news throughout the year. However, I hope it will not be a one-way discussion! The best way I can address what is on your mind is to have a dialogue with you, so I look forward to receiving your comments and questions through this blog. Don’t be shy…

- A Weekend of Sunny Rays is Good for the Mind April 17, 2013I spent this past weekend outside; eating dirt on the soccer field, (that’s fútbol to my Hispanic friends and football to my European buddies), flinging Frisbees around campus, and exploring Austin’s Mount Bonnell. The past couple of weeks have been a little stressful with school, work, and trying to get a hold of my personal […]
- The Pur$uit of Happine$$: Part 3 April 5, 2013Hi everyone, Like Melissa, I just wanted to cap my experience spending a semester interning. Hi I an international student. I am Bangladeshi. My undergrade gpa is 3.48. My GMAT score is 660 and Toefl score is 95 . I have two year part time work experience in a chartered accoutancy firm. What is my chance of getting into MPA program?
Each application is evaluated in its entirety and in comparison with the rest of the applicant pool for a particular year, so I am unable to provide you with a definitive answer on your chances for admission.
You might find it helpful to read our Web site on characteristics of a strong application (http://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/mpa/traditional/admissions/apply.asp#characteristics) and review the current MPA class profile (http://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/mpa/traditional/profile.asp).
Please feel free to contact me directly if you would like to discuss your particular application in more detail.
Hello! I am working on my application now. I have not submitted it yet because i have not completed my essay. Can I pay the fee and submit what I have now and then upload the essay later. Also, my GMAT scores have been sent already. Will this have any effect even though I have not submitted an application?
Joshua,
Yes, you can submit your application first and return to the essay and submit it later. Details are available on the Application Materials Checklist page at: http://new.mccombs.utexas.edu/MPA/Traditional-MPA/Admissions/Application-Materials-Checklist.aspx. The GMAT scores will be matched to your record after the score report and application have been received.
Dear Keri,
Can you tell me what I will need to compromise a relatively weak GMAT score? How much weight does the admissions committee put on application’s GMAT and the undergraduate GPA?
Thank you.
Ting,
We consider the GMAT in the context of a holistic review of all admissions criteria; however, it is considered as one of the important components to the MPA application. If your score is weak, I recommend that you retake the GMAT, particularly if your GPA is below our average and/or if you do not have professional work experience. The admissions committee would consider the highest score earned if you retake the GMAT.
Hi! I plan on graduating in the summer, can I still apply for fall admissions? If so, how many spots are left open after initial admissions, i.e. how many total vacant slots will I be vying for?
UT Hopeful,
If you are eligible to waive ACC 381-Financial Accounting (based on the previous completion of introduction to financial accounting and intermediate financial accounting I, both with grades of “B” or better), then you are eligible to apply for the fall, even if you complete your bachelor’s degree in the summer. We make decisions on a rolling basis, so the number of available slots changes consistently.
