From Associate Dean for Graduate Programs Eric Hirst:

It’s hot now, but come October we may have a little respite from the heat. That’s good news because the Lance Armstrong LIVESTRONG Challenge will be held on the weekend of Oct. 24-25. There is a 5K run on the 24th. On the 25th, there will be 10, 20, 45, 65 & 90-mile bicycle rides. I rode the 90 mile ride last year and I can vouch that it is probably the best organized and scenic ride in the region.

To foster some McCombs community building and to help raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation’s fight against cancer, I’ve set up a McCombs School of Business team for the ride. We’ve already got faculty and students signed up and I know more are interested.

I hope you’ll join us, whether you ride 10, 20, 45, 65, or 90 miles. If you can’t join us on the road, please consider sponsoring one of the riders. It’s for a good cause.

Have a great semester,
Eric

Is there any economic benefit to the cancer foundation if we take part in the activity(other than the donation)?
Or is it primarily for showing our support to the foundation and uniting for the cause.

    Thanks,
    Asit

Asit: the event raises money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. The LAF website is at

    http://www.livestrong.org/site/c.khLXK1PxHmF/b.2660611/k.BCED/Home.htm

They are involved in many activities related to the fight against cancer from education initiatives to funding basic research. They are running a three-day Global Cancer Summit in Dublin, Ireland starting today. The website contains a detailed list of their activities and their financial information, too. I hope you can join us on the ride.

Hello McCombs students and alumni - there are some great training rides that go out of Lance Armstrong’s bike shop here in Austin - Mellow Johnny’s - if you’re looking to ride with a group. Their calendar has all the details. They also rent bikes. If you need to rent a bike for the actual event, reserve one now!

Great! I will be doing this, it will be great training for the MS150, it will be for a good cause, and it will be ‘challenging’!

    Thanks Eric.
