Michael Clement has been an outstanding academic since his PhD student days at Stanford. It is terrific to see him rewarded for years of excellence, and it is even better to see his commitment to diversity being honored in this public way. This is outstanding, Michael, and well-deserved. As someone said, “Man is only truly great when he acts from his passions.” I’ve always admired your passion for advancing diversity and inclusion at UT. I’m glad to see that others now also are recognizing your greatness for this and rewarding you for it.

That is really good news. I don’t know him as a teacher, but am not surprised from what I do know about Michael as a friend. He is one of the quiet heroes, the people who make a real difference in others lives without a big splash. I am glad that someone took the time and effort to recognize his work. Congratulations, Mike!

As I read through so many of the news articles that show the problems in the world, it is with so much pleasure that I read about the solutions, that being people such as Michael. Indeed this award and the comments by Michael’s peers reinforce what I have always known which is that he is a smart, caring and special individual and I am blessed to know him.
