Ten McCombs School faculty were honored by their peers at the McCombs Teaching and Research Awards ceremony May 4. Congratulations to these terrific faculty members on a job well done:
RESEARCH AWARDS
CBA Foundation Research Excellence Award for Assistant Professors
Alok Kumar, assistant professor, finance
For research excellence by an assistant professor in the McCombs School. Limited to tenure-track, full-time Assistant Professors who are completing at least their second year at UT.
Award for Research Excellence
Violina Rindova, associate professor, management
For a tenured or tenure-track faculty member who has made a significant research contribution in one or more functional areas of business. This award is given for a contribution generated by a single research project or a related set of projects. Such a contribution can take the form of creatively synthesizing prior research, stimulating future research or extending the frontier of knowledge in a functional area.
Career Award for Outstanding Research Contributions
Andrew Whinston, Hugh Roy Cullen Centennial Chair in Business Administration, IROM
For singularly significant research contributions made by a tenured or tenure-track faculty member over an extended period of time. These contributions can vary widely from theoretical or conceptual developments to the development ofnew research techniques and procedures, to the creative application of theories, concepts, techniques or procedures.
TEACHING AWARDS
Excellence in Education Award
Lisa Koonce, Deloitte & Touche Professor in Accounting and Distinguished Teaching Professor
This award recognizes teaching excellence and significant contributions to education over an extended (career) period.
Joe D. Beasley Award (MBA Teaching)
Michael Brandl, senior lecturer, finance
This award is for teaching excellence in the MBA curriculum. The award will be granted annually to a faculty member in the McCombs School ofBusiness who teaches or has taught MBA courses.
Hank & Mary Harkins Foundation Award for Effective Teaching in Undergraduate Classes
Tim Ruefli, H. Timothy (Tim) Harkins Centennial Professor in Business, IROM
Recognizes teaching excellence in undergraduate classes. Particular emphasis is given to teachers who have demonstrated innovation in teaching through using multi-media, preparing special materials for the students, and those individuals who personally demonstrate ability to motivate and inspire students to academic achievement.
Trammell/CBA Foundation Teaching Award for Assistant Professors
Michael Williamson, assistant professor, accounting
For teaching excellence among assistant professors.
Fred Moore Assistant Instructor Awards for Teaching Excellence
James Smith, assistant instructor, accounting
Alan Crane, assistant instructor, finance
For teaching excellence among McCombs assistant instructors.
Fawn & Vijay Mahajan Teaching Excellence Award for Executive Education
Britt Freund, assistant dean of executive education; senior lecturer, IROM
For outstanding contributions to Executive Education non-degree programs, granted to a faculty member who demonstrates remarkable performance and commitment in quality teaching, contribution to executive education and contribution to business development.
