The Tower of The University of Texas at Austin glowed bright orange Tuesday, Jan. 27, in honor of the recipients of some of the most prestigious awards given by the university. The honorees included McCombs faculty member William W. Cooper and Sara Martinez Tucker, MBA ’79, who each received the prestigious Presidential Citation. President William Powers Jr. hosted the honors dinner at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center.
Cooper is the Foster Parker Centennial Professor Emeritus of Finance and Management in the Department of Information, Risk, and Operations Management. He was inducted into the Accounting Hall of Fame in 1991. For more on Cooper, see the story in the most recent Texas magazine.
Tucker, the U.S. under secretary of education from 2006-2008, is a former president and chief executive officer of the Hispanic Scholarship fund, former regional vice president for AT&T and was a Texas Exes Distinguished Alumnus Award recipient in 2005.
The Presidential Citation was created in 1979 to recognize the extraordinary contributions of individuals who personify the university’s commitment to the task of transforming lives.

Prof Bill Cooper was my mentor from 1970 to 1975 at SUPA (now John Heinz School of Public Policy), Carnegie-Mellon University, and was a key member of my PhD dissertation committee. He got me transferred from UT, Austin, to SUPA, CMU. Bill taught me on how to approach real word problems using analytical models. My congratulations to Bill and wish him many more years of continued success.
