Hooking ‘em and keeping it weird are my favorite things to do these days. I am not quite sure what they fully entail yet but hope to do them everyday, and twice on game days. Anything I buy or own seems to possess a hint of burnt orange now and I have never been more awed by the sheer talent of the company I keep. I am a first year full-time MBA student at McCombs and have just begun experiencing what is quickly turning out to be the most exciting and enlightening phase of my life.
Having lived and worked in as far-flung corners of the world as Delhi, Muscat, Dubai, Arkansas and Houston, I have come to realize that an eclectic, heterogeneous environment could be the most efficient recipe for stimulating intellectual growth. I am passionate about mutual interactions that add value to all parties involved. Personally, a setting where I feel like I can add value and enhance the experience of my classmates, but most importantly receive in return value that is multiplied by a factor of 270 (my class size), inspires me to excel. If you think a factor of 270 is ambitious, how about a factor of 65 (my cohort size)? I cannot think of a more productive social barter system or a better place than McCombs to experience this phenomenon. The fact that UT is nestled in Austin is just a superb bonus (much like the extra guacamole on my breakfast taco!)
I have always desired a holistic business education. My dad is a finance professional, and while growing up business news (and of course sports) would always dominate the dinner table discussions. Later in life, having worked in the trenches of oil and gas project execution, often times with peers from very different backgrounds than mine, learning to lead effectively was a skill I wanted to understand the science behind. Most of all during my time at McCombs, I hope to combine a strong classroom education with at least one unique experiential learning opportunity of which McCombs has several to offer. The one I am most excited about and keeps me up at nights is the MBA Investment Fund, a student-managed fund worth $17M and the first of its kind in the nation. Speaking of breaking new ground!
It has been a great three weeks so far and I am thankful that I made this decision. As a side note, I am yet to meet a person from my class or the second-year class who is not willing to lend a helping hand by answering each one of my questions patiently until I am drooling and cannot ask anymore! Kindness and generosity is a part of the orange fabric at McCombs, and I feel honored to be here.
