Midterm Mania!

So here we are – the first midterm exams of our MBA career are DONE. And what a whirlwind of a week! I can safely say that I have never tackled such a challenge in my entire academic career – for a cool seven+ days it seemed every synapse in my brain was pulsing accounting/finance/statistics to the point where I would dream about solving covariance practice problems.

Late night studying, best done in bed!

And then, finally, on Friday all our FIFO/LIFO Net Present Value of the Estimated Regression Line absorption was put to the test. Well, sort of… As I’m sure you’ve read or at least heard that the entire University of Texas was evacuated in response to a bomb threat at about 9:35AM, 35 minutes into Part I of our accounting exam. Thankfully everyone evacuated safely and orderly and there were no bombs found on campus, however this definitely threw a wrench in our exam schedule. After swift deliberation from the powers that be, Part II of the exam was shifted back to Tuesday morning in-between our Finance and Statistics exams. And while no one in a million years could’ve possibly anticipated something like this, I think the entire Class of 2014 adapted accordingly and handled the situation with an admirable level of resiliency and professionalism.

Tuesday evening was our last exam, Statistics, and after that last question was answered at 9PM everyone gathered in the Carpenter Center to collectively decompress and at the same time gear up for the celebration we had all awaited for so long. The venue of choice: Cain & Abel’s, a quaint sports bar just outside of campus. Everyone was throwing out congratulatory high-fives, hugs and most importantly, dollar beers. (I have to be honest – never in my life did a Bud Light taste so good)

It was such a great night filled with great friends, great music and the elation that came from knowing we just conquered our first mid-term exams.

This past week has been chock-full of trials and tribulations, however after making it through this first round of exams I’m ready to tackle anything. Which will serve me well because we have finals in 4 weeks. Ha.
