Application Next Steps: Finish Up Your Essays

(Watch this video on YouTube)

As the application period for the Texas Evening MBA, Texas MBA at Houston, Texas MBA at Dallas/Fort Worth, and Texas Executive MBA programs comes to an end this week, we want to offer you one more piece of advice as you prepare to turn in your application. The final deadline to apply is May 25th – this Friday.

This week Trent Thurman, Director of Working Professional MBA programs, talks about the essays requirements for the Working Professional MBA application and discusses some of the key elements that the admissions team is looking for in these essays.

While your resume provides a snapshot of what you’ve done, the admissions team really looks to your essays to find out more about your story. The first essay focuses on your goals – why you want to go back to school and what you hope to get out of the program. A common mistake by applicants is that they spend too much time talking about where they’ve been and do not talk enough about where are looking to go and what their future goals are. The second essay, which is new this year, allows you to tell us something that you can’t find in another part of your application. This is an opportunity to be creative and talk about community service, a hobby, or something else that helps to tell a little more of your story.

More information on the essays and other application instructions can be found in the Admissions section for each program on the Texas MBA website.
