Study Abroad as an LP Event
November 9th, 2009 · Uncategorized · Posted by Evelyn Meisell
POLICY CHANGE
We have changed the policy regarding studying abroad and LP Events. If you study abroad during the fall or spring semester, your experience abroad will count as the LP Event for that semester. Previously, study abroad only counted as an LDA. If you study abroad during the summer semester, your experience abroad will count as an LDA (because we do not offer LP Events in the summer). Note that you must submit a reflection for your time abroad to receive credit for the LP Event or LDA.
We hope you all have the chance to study abroad during your time at McCombs, and we look forward to the global trip during your last year in LP!

Differences in LDAs and LP Events
November 9th, 2009 · Uncategorized · Posted by Evelyn Meisell
Lately, I have received a few questions about the difference between LDA’s and LP Events. Of course, please feel free to email me questions, but also spend some time on the blog. My goal is to have every bit of LP information on the blog - so let me know if there is something else you would like to see!

Katie Koehler: November Leader of the Month
November 3rd, 2009 · Uncategorized · Posted by Evelyn Meisell
My first class as a freshman in college, as I was taking my seat in the back row, my professor kindly started class with a statement that has set the tone of the rest of my life, “Where you sit determines what you see.” Just as with any situation, every person brings a different and interesting perspective to the table. In MIS, this is referred to as a mental model, but no matter what it’s deemed, every individual obtains a unique view point, story, and opinion. As a leader, acknowledging, accepting, and encouraging voices to arise from every seat is fundamental. From the seminars, conferences, classes, book reviews, and conversations I’ve had while being in the Leadership Program at McCombs, my definition of leadership has grown and evolved to mean the ability to guide, direct, or show the way to a certain course of action or thought within oneself, the community, the nation, and the world. In order to lead a group, we must first be able to lead ourselves. Leadership is an ever-changing journey that will never end and keeping this in mind, be sure to grow, explore, and learn. John Quincy Adams once said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” Take this quote and your leadership to the next level: inspire yourself, the community, the country, and the world to dream more, learn more, do more and become more. Through this, never stop; keep leading.
