What advice would you give BBA students?
This is trite, but follow your passion. The people I know who are unhappy in life are people who thought that they had to be an investment banker to be successful. Or they had to make partner at a Big Four firm to be successful. Or they had to be millionaires to be successful. To me, being successful is waking up in the morning and wanting to go to work because you like what you will be doing and coming home to family and friends who love you and support you because you love and support them.
Your most treasured possession?
I don’t really have any possessions that I treasure. I’ve got old comic books I collected when I was a kid. I’ve got a baseball signed by Mickey Mantle and most of the 1963 Yankee team. I’ve got some art works that one of my best friends made for me. But if I lost every physical item I own in a fire, it wouldn’t be a big deal to me, as long as my wife and my two daughters are safe. They’re not possessions, but they mean the world to me. They are my treasures.
If you could have dinner with a notable person in history, who would it be?
Whitey Ford, my boyhood idol.
What is the wildest thing you’ve ever done?
I will admit to skydiving and bungee-jumping.
What’s your personal motto? Do you have a story to share?
