The Story of UT’s Secret Weapon

1961. Texas was ranked 4th in the nation. Darrell K. Royal was the coach, and their opponent to open the season was none other than the Cal Bears. Well, as fate would have it, Texas couldn’t get its cheer squad and band to the game, so UT alum Bill Bates took matters into his own hands.

He created a secret weapon.
