The camps are designed to be weeklong on-campus institutes for economically disadvantaged and/or prospective first-generation college students to learn more about what a degree in business has to offer. Participants spend a week on the UT campus, exploring careers in business and becoming familiar with Austin and UT. The camps provide hands-on learning experiences, enhanced with tours of Austin-area companies. A series of classes will introduce students to the different fields of business including marketing, accounting, management, and communications. Business leaders from a variety of business backgrounds will share their experiences and provide tips for success. Participants will also learn more about college admission and scholarships.
We will choose up to 6 counselors each for the two McCombs Summer Camps to supervise a cohort of campers. Those chosen to be camp counselors will oversee a cohort of students throughout the weeklong program. Camp Counselors will be expected to reside in Jester Dormitory with the students as a mentor, an on-call resource and as a safety measure. Additional counselor expectations are attached. Counselors are expected to participate in all camp activities. Preference will be given to applicants taking limited or no summer coursework. Compensation for those hired will be $500.00 for the week
