Movie in French with English subtitles. “A poignant coming-of-age story of a precocious and outspoken young Iranian girl that begins during the Islamic Revolution. This is a heartbreaking true story of a childhood coinciding with regime change and war in Iran.   • Thursday, Nov. 19th - Doors and Passageways of Return

A documentary recounting the experience of African-American artist, Muhsana Ali, who journeys “back” to Africa by way of the “Doors of No Return”, encountered during her visits to the Slave Ports located in Senegal and Ghana.  Her work is produced with the assistance of over 40 street youths she happens upon living in the abandoned Abidjan hospital ruin in which she chooses to house her exhibition.  The documentary reveals how Muhsana is able to come to terms with her personal bitterness concerning the painful history of slavery.  The making of the exhibition, 10 powerful sculptures and installations representing “a spiritual meeting place for the African peoples separated through slavery”, take both Muhsana and the youth through a series of meaningful rites of passage that leave them changed forever.
