More than 300 students, alumni and friends of the McCombs School attended the 2009 Scholarship Recognition Dinner on November 20. The dinner was a forum to honor the donors and recipients of graduate and undergraduate scholarships and to introduce the recipients to their benefactors.
Before the program, the students visited with their donors, faculty members and university leaders. Speakers at the event included Dean Thomas Gilligan, Provost Steven Leslie and Business Honors Program student Jasmine Bell. “McCombs understands the importance of learning beyond the classroom and offers its students a variety of opportunities to become well-rounded. With the help from our generous alumni and friends, students are able to take advantage of these opportunities which provide us with a more complete university experience. I represent all the students here when I say – thank you,” said Jasmine (pictured left).
Scholarships have a very real, lasting impact on academic achievement and student experience. They are also a meaningful way to honor an individual’s memory. The Jennifer A. Kemp Foundation (JAKF) recently established the Jennifer A. Kemp Memorial Scholarship in Accounting.
Jennifer was a graduate of the University of North Texas where she received a Bachelors of Science in Accounting and a Masters of Science in Taxation. She had a long career at Deloitte & Touche where she worked to recruit high achieving students from the McCombs School and continued to mentor and foster their careers while at Deloitte. The Jennifer A. Kemp Memorial Scholarship in Accounting was awarded to MPA student James Chiang, pictured left with JAKF board member Geoffrey Kemp and committee member Deleigh Kemp.
Thank you to our donors for advancing the quality of our students’ education and congratulations to our students for earning these prestigious scholarships. Visit our Web site for a list of the scholarships honored at the dinner.
