Dealing in used and refurbished goods and repair services may provide shelter from the economic storm. Robert Adams, a lecturer at the University of Texas’ McCombs School of Business, said there is an overall shift toward repair and resale, and away from new goods — a trend that can be seen in most any industry.
“The big picture trend … is refurbish and repair instead of replace,” Adams said. “People are forgoing the stainless steel refrigerator and keeping the old clunker a little longer.”
