Meredith (BBA ’01) and Langston (MBA ’01) Turner always had a goal of giving back to the McCombs School. After all they are both alumni, and it’s where they first met and began dating. (Langston actually interviewed with Meredith’s father shortly before they met. “I told Langston it’s a good thing he chose a different job, because I don’t think I would have started dating him if he worked for my dad!” Meredith says.)
After careful planning, the couple established the Meredith and Langston Turner Endowed Scholarship. Now that they have reached their philanthropic goal, Meredith is excited, but realizes their plan might have overlooked other opportunities.
“I really wish we had done something sooner,” she says. “We didn’t have to wait until we were able to create an endowment. Even just giving $100 or whatever we could afford here and there would have been valuable. So many great people have come out of this school, and supporting that is really important.”
The Turner scholarship is merit and need-based, and will be available to current McCombs students.
“It’s so inspiring to know there’s a person behind the scholarship,” Meredith says. “I can’t wait to meet the students who receive it, and learn more about them and see them succeed.”
Meredith is mom to 1-year-old daughter Mary Helen, and Langston is managing director at Atlantic Trust in Houston.
